Launch of the avian disease surveillance dashboard
In 2017 we successfully launched the sheep, cattle and pig disease surveillance dashboards and now there is an avian dashboard available that displays data on non-notifiable diseases in non-commercial and small chicken flocks.
As with the other dashboards, the avian dashboard is an interactive map containing GB-wide data. Vets can now quickly and easily access information on the most common diagnoses in different age categories or with different presenting signs, or see where specific diseases have been diagnosed. Once a view has been selected, it can be downloaded as an image to use in a document or presentation.
The dashboard may be of particular interest to small animal and mixed practice veterinarians to see the most common diseases affecting non-commercial and back-yard chickens.
As with the other dashboards, it has been developed to share the surveillance information, in this case from 2007 onwards derived from submissions to the GB veterinary diagnostic network which is made up of:
- APHA’s Veterinary Investigation Centres (VICs) across England and Wales.
- The network of universities and other surveillance partners working with APHA.
- Scotland’s Rural College Disease Surveillance Centres in Scotland operated by SAC Consulting Veterinary Services.
If you would like to know more about any of the dashboards please contact your nearest Veterinary Investigation Centre. You can use our postcode search tool to help you find the centre closest to you.
