AHVLA holds stakeholder workshop on quality assurance of tuberculin testing

Following a meeting in May with BVA and BCVA to exchange views on matters of mutual interest, AHVLA held a workshop at Bristol University Veterinary School on 14 June to address feedback that there is a need for robust and consistent TB test quality assurance.

A cross-section of industry stakeholders were invited to the workshop.

Simon Hall, AHVLA Veterinary Director, said: “Throughout the day there was lively and constructive participation. The topics debated included the need to introduce defined minimum quality standards to complement standard operating procedures for performing the TB test, and to ensure consistency of application.

“It was also agreed that a robust audit programme was integral to the success of quality assurance. AHVLA’s recent pilot audit of TB tests in Wales supports this view.”

AHVLA is now taking forward feedback from the workshop to develop a robust quality assurance scheme for implementation across Great Britain.
Presentation material and a summary of the workshop are available.
