Salmonella in Farm Animals - Isolation & Identification

Various culture, isolation or molecular methods. These may include additional confirmatory tests.
Reporting format

Please record the presence or absence of Salmonella (+ve / -ve / IC).
Also, when identified, please report the species, group and / or serotype.
Any other organism(s) isolated, either pathogen or non-pathogen, may also be reported (however this is secondary to the objective of the PT). 

The authorised report will be published electronically. This will show intended results and participant results.

Sample Type

0.1 mL containing microorganism(s) freeze dried in glass vials.

Samples in the panel may or may not contain Salmonella. They may contain a pathogen or non-pathogen either pure or mixed with common contaminants. The isolates are derived from either reference or field strains.

Participants will be given clinical information about the sample, as would happen with most usual sample submissions to a laboratory. Using normal routine procedures the participants will make their choice of tests to try to determine the presence or absence of Salmonella.

Identification of other organisms present is supplementary to reporting to the detection of Salmonella.
