Various culture and isolation methods and additional confirmatory tests
Participants will be given clinical information about the sample, as would happen with most usual sample submissions to a laboratory. Using normal routine procedures the participants should make their choice of tests to try to determine the organisms present.
Please record whether the sample is Positive or Negative for Campylobacter species.
Where laboratory facilities exist and where further work is routinely carried out, record the species isolated.
When a laboratory does not normally test for a particular type of Campylobacter e.g. foetal strains, (based on the sample history) report this as "not routinely tested".
The final report will be issued electronically. The report will show the intended results, as well as the results from all other participants.
Simulated clinical specimen - 0.1 ml freeze dried sample in 3-mL glass vial.
Each sample may contain Campylobacter species, either enteric strains or strains linked to abortion. Contaminants may also be present. Negative samples may also be used. The organisms will be reference or field strains
